Partners and practitioners come together to launch the Community of Practice and advance green participatory budgeting

In February 2026, the Green B-LEAF partnership gathered in Quart de Poblet ( Spain) for its second Transnational Project Meeting, marking an important milestone in the project’s implementation. The two-day meeting brought together project partners and external stakeholders to strengthen collaboration, exchange knowledge, and move forward with the project’s methodological development.

The first day was dedicated to the launch of the Green B-LEAF Community of Practice (CoP), a key component of the project’s capitalisation approach. Representatives from municipalities and organisations across the Mediterranean region joined the session to share experiences and explore how participatory budgeting and green budget tagging can support climate action at local level.

Participants were introduced to the project’s objectives, work plan, and expected results, followed by a series of best practice presentations highlighting local initiatives in participatory governance and environmental sustainability. Interactive workshops allowed participants to shape the future direction of the Community of Practice, define priority themes, and engage in a hands-on simulation of a green participatory budgeting process.

The second day focused on project coordination and implementation, with partners reviewing progress across work packages, aligning upcoming activities, and discussing next steps. A study visit in Quart de Poblet provided participants with insights into local participatory budgeting practices and engagement with local stakeholders.

The meeting confirmed the strong commitment of all partners to advancing green participatory budgeting as a practical tool for climate-resilient local governance. It also reinforced the role of the Community of Practice as a platform for knowledge exchange, mutual learning, and the development of transferable solutions across Mediterranean territories.

Green B-LEAF will continue to build on these results in the coming months, with a focus on community workshops, pilot implementation, methodological development, and strengthening the transnational network.

The Green B-LEAF project is funded by the Interreg Euro-MED Programme of the European Union and is led by GAL Molise Verso il 2000 (Italy), in collaboration with the Municipalities of Faro (Portugal), Vodnjan (Croatia), Sandanski (Bulgaria), Strumica (North Macedonia), Pilea-Hortiatis (Greece), Quart de Poblet (Spain) and Beltinci (Slovenia), supported by OTB Europe (Portugal), Center for Climate Change and Promo Idea (North Macedonia).
